The Work of Lakeside

Being Jesus in our Community....

Jesus called us not just to a belief but a way of life, bringing the good news to the people through social action.

At Lakeside, we fulfil this call by viewing the church as the light and salt in the world - being involved in the communities around us not separate from them.

Here are some of the ways we reach out to the community in love. Maybe you'd like to support us with your time or other resources, whether you're Christian or not.

Helping Mums and Toddlers - Acorn Club

The Acorn Club is a friendly mum and toddlers group whose aim is to provide a safe environment for the youngest in our community to learn to have fun and play together, whilst giving mums the opportunity to share experiences and stories together over a tea/coffee and a biscuit.

Don’t worry if you’ve never been to a group before – there’s always a warm welcome from mum’s who are in exactly the same place as you – and some help from more experienced mum’s who’ve been through it before!

The club has been running for over X years, and provides a caring environment for everyone in the community regardless of faith.

Providing a Place to Meet - New Life Café

We have a vision to open a spirit filled café in Perton as a place for the local community to meet together, share life and encourage one another over a warm drink and some good food.

We have yet to find a location or secure funding, but if this idea captures your imagination then drop Allan Davenport a line.

Giving Practical Support - Helping Hands

At Lakeside we have launched a local good neighbour scheme called Helping Hands.

Collecting prescriptions and pensions, doing some shopping, writing a letter or filling in a form are just a few of the things that volunteers with Helping Hands do for anyone in Perton, Bilbrook or Codsall who could do with some help.

Helping Hands volunteers even offer short term help with housework, gardening or caring for a pet.  They also hope to be able to provide transport for hospital, dental or doctor's appointments.

Some Helping Hands volunteers work full-time, some are retired, some come from our area and others come from outside. They're all busy people, but are committed to helping others wherever and whenever they can.

If you or anyone you know needs help of this kind, or if you’d like to become a pair of Helping Hands yourself, contact the co-ordinator Henryk Kulyna.

Caring for our Environment - Environmental Action Group

We believe we all share a responsibility to look after the resources we have been given by God - that includes our own communal spaces.

To support this, Lakeside is part of the local Environmental Action Group, members of which also include South Staffordshire and Perton councils, and the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.

We plan events to bring people’s attention to the condition of the local environment and to improve this.

Second Saturday Tidy-up

On the ‘Second Saturday’ of every month we put some time into keeping our community tidy. Litter pickers, bags and safety equipment are provided.

Encouraging the Elderly - Corser's Court

We have many living in sheltered accommodation and homes in our community.

One of our works is visiting the residents of a local sheltered accommodation in Perton, Corser’s Court, where we provide the opportunity for the residents to worship and to be prayed for.

We’d love to extend this to other places but need more members to help us to do this.

If you’d like to support our work, click here to contact the organiser, Sue Genge.

Visiting Those in Hospital - Hospital Visiting

There are many in our hospitals that don’t have the luxury of friends and relatives to visit them in their time of need.

This can be a very distressing experience.

At Lakeside, we’re blessed to have a number of people who have experience in the health care area, and these people, supported by other members of our church, are keen to develop a group to provide a befriending role to those in hospital.

If you’d like to help us, or know someone who is need of support in hospital, click here to contact Elaine Kulyna.

Bringing Christians Together

Our Pastor, Rob Pearson, and the leaders of The Church at Perton and Trinity Methodist Church, Codsall, share a vision for a network of different churches within the area united by a common belief in Jesus Christ and the outworking of God’s love through His people into the community.

They believe that the best Christian witness is one evidenced by the people of God working and living together in unity and fellowship.

Click here to contact Rob Pearson if you share this vision.
